About the Chief of Staff Association

About the role
Responsible for leading the CSA's editorial output, ensuring all written publications are strategic, insightful and brand-aligned. Oversees the CSA’s annual publications programme, including The Chief of Staff journal, State of the Industry report, and impact reports. Works closely with members, corporate partners and colleagues to produce high-quality publications that deepen understanding of the chief of staff role and reinforce the CSA’s position as the global peak body for the profession.
What you’ll be doing:
Editorial Leadership
- Manage the production of the CSA’s four annual written publications: the twice-yearly journal, a State of the Industry report, and an impact report.
- Identify suitable themes for each publication in consultation with the Director of Communications.
- Edit and prepare all written contributions to a professional standard, ensuring clarity, accuracy and alignment with the CSA’s brand.
- Assist with design and layout of publications, ensuring consistency with the CSA’s style guide and templates.
Member and Contributor Engagement
- Coordinate contributions from CSA members for the journal and newsletters.
- Put call out for, and edit, member submissions, ensuring timely delivery for publication.
- Capture member stories to highlight professional journeys and showcase the value of the chief of staff role.
Research and Surveys
- Develop methodologies for surveys underpinning the CSA’s State of the Industry and impact reports.
- Draft targeted questionnaires and coordinate respondent outreach across members and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with corporate partners on co-authored reports where appropriate.
Content and Campaigns
- Support the Director of Communications in planning and delivering the monthly newsletter.
- Edit and refine member contributions for newsletters and articles.
- Work with the Director of Communications to develop a consistent pipeline of LinkedIn content that reflects the CSA’s support for members and provides balanced regional representation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Liaise with the Engagement and Education teams to understand topical issues and translate these into relevant editorial content.
- Support advocacy efforts by contributing to thought leadership projects, including occasional work on The Chief of Staff podcast and partnerships with think tanks.
- Provide administrative support for ad hoc projects where needed.
Core competencies:
- Editorial and Writing – Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills; ability to adapt tone and style for varied audiences.
- Research and Analysis – Skilled in survey design and research; able to interpret data and translate insights into engaging publications.
- Project Management – Organised, deadline-driven and capable of managing multiple projects and contributors at once.
- Communication and Collaboration – Strong interpersonal skills; able to build relationships, coordinate input and chase contributions diplomatically.
- Brand and Design Awareness – Understanding of brand consistency; familiarity with design and publishing tools to produce polished outputs.
Digital and Social Media – Awareness of digital publishing; experience generating content for LinkedIn and professional audiences. - Strategic Thinking – Ability to align editorial work with CSA’s broader communications strategy and anticipate themes of value to members.

- GBP 45,000 depending on experience
